Summa Time Tips

By Arielle Dance, PhD

Summertime is here and it’s a hot one (and surprisingly rainy in many areas). We hope you’re finding time for fun and using that PTO. Whether you’re having staycations, wild adventures, or chillin’ by the pool, we want you to be safe and take care of bodies. Here are our recommendations for surviving summer with endometriosis.

Take the Time - Even if you don’t have big plans, still take some time off to relax or do something fun. This season is great for recovering and self-care, put yourself first this summer.

Drink Water- The temperature is climbing and the days can be sweltering. Stay hydrated (preferably with water) to regulate temperature and help your joints/organs receive oxygen.

Stay Cool - Choose the shade when possible. Hats, sunglasses, and portable fans are great ways to protect you and keep you cool. Know the signs of heat exhaustion and take precautions.

Safe Skincare - Brown and Black girls still need sunscreen; the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommends SPF 30 or higher. Seek medical care with any changes in skin (including moles).

Recuperation - After a day of fun, remember to balance your energy and rest as much as you need to. Use your spoons wisely, it’s okay to need a recovery day after a day of fun.

Snack Wisely - Choose healthy snacks like fresh fruits, salads, seeds, nuts, and smoothies. Limit the use of alcohol, processed foods, and fried foods.

Picking Activities - Music festivals and cookouts are great options. Remember to bring your chair for rest but also dance a bit and have fun! Swimming can be great for the body and a chance to do some light resistance exercise.

Travel Safely- If you’re traveling, remember to visit our tips for making travel smoother. Pack all your medical necessities, utilize accommodations when needed, and take breaks when you feel the need
